I've been a big fan of the Netherlands based magazine Flow for many years. So I was thrilled to finally get to create some illustrations for their Dutch issue on an article about how we want to be perfect and avoid making mistakes; how we're afraid of falling as grown-ups. This is a something I still face everyday, so I felt really connected to the article (although I can't read Dutch).
For the big spread illustration, the art director wanted the emotion of the illustration to be positive and funny, so I came up with this scene of three women walking on the street; one is falling, the others had fallen but they got up and kept walking. If you look closer, you can see one woman has holes on her pants and the other has a plaster on her knee.
I also did a spot illustration of a first aid kit to accompany the article.
I think we all need to remind ourselves that it's ok to be not perfect and make mistakes. And the most important thing is to treat ourselves kindly after we fell and stand up again to keep going!
