I can't believe it's already 2016. This year, one of my new year resolutions is to write my blog regularly. So I'm going to start by sharing a fun project I did recently.
A couple months ago, a nice man Jim emailed me and asked if I could do a custom holiday card for his family. Jim runs a blog named Sweet Juniper, where he shares his family life and super cool costumes he made for his two kids, and it has become their tradition to commission one of their favorite illustrators each year to do their christmas card. I was so honor to be their choice of 2015 along with past illustrators I admire such as Yelena Bryksenkova and Phoebe Wahl. They are such a happy and goofy family who loves crafts and outdoors, so I felt immediately connected and agreed to do it.
For the illustration they wanted a winter scene with their family and their German Shorthaired Pointer. Jim gave me lots of freedom on the illustration and let me just do my thing. But I wanted to create something special for them so I included some of their favorite outfits like his son's black star-shaped hat (it was a funny shape to draw!) and the green sweater Jim's wife knitted for her daughter. I also created a little woods in the background surrounding the classic Mies van der Rohe apartment they live in. I did the hand-lettering for the interior of the card as well.
I LOVE working for family and kids, because I want to capture happiness and create something memorable in people's life with my illustration. Internet is such a wonderful place to discover like-minded people, and you never know who you might come across next. Thank you everyone for following and supporting me in the past year, I'm so grateful and pumped for a new amazing year!
